Signing the Declaration "Total tax collections in the U.S. are expected to be $2,667,000,000,000 in 1998. This represents 35.4% of the country's total income. In comparison, medieval serfs paid an effective tax rate of 33.3 percent." (Source: Just Facts)

Concerned Taxpayers Of Windsor

Dedicated to the wise use of local tax dollars

Over recent years, low tax rates in Windsor have continued to attract businesses and homeowners. Thanks to committed citizens and the power of referendum written into the Windsor Town Charter, spendthrift politicians have been restrained, and everyone has benefited.

Concerned Taxpayers of Windsor has been in the forefront of this effort, as a non-partisan organization dedicated to...

Over the years, Concerned Taxpayers of Windsor has been responsible for helping to keep literally millions of dollars in the hands of those who produced it. Thousands of families have benefited by an increased ability to maintain their homes, to educate and entertain their children, and to afford those things which are part of the "quality of life".

Our nation was founded on the concept of liberty - and at the base of that liberty lies freedom from taxation. The Boston Tea Party, the War of Independence, the Whiskey Rebellion and many other acts in the founding days of the United States were based on resistance to taxation - and that at a time when only a tiny percentage of the productive activity of the nation was confiscated in taxes. Now, when nearly 50% of the average family's income is taken in income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, estate taxes, social security taxes, gasoline taxes, luxury taxes, cigarette taxes, and by the unseen taxes of regulation, there is more need than ever to stand by the principle of a government restrained by the people.

Our members come from all political parties and also include registered independents. They are of all ages and walks of life. Their common bond is a desire to reduce the burden of taxation.

Humor (And we need it!)

TAXPAYER´S LAMENT

Tax his cow, Tax his goat;
Tax his pants, Tax his coat;
Tax his crop, Tax his work;
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt;
Tax his chew, Tax his smoke;
Teach him taxing is no joke.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule;
Tell him, Taxing is the rule.
Tax his oil, Tax his gas;
Tax his notes, Tax his cash;
Tax him good and let him know,
That after taxes, he has no dough.
If he hollers, Tax him more;
Tax him till he´s good and sore.
Tax his coffin, Tax his grave,
Tax his sod in which he´s laid.
Put these words upon his tomb,
´´Taxes drove him to his doom.´´
After he´s gone, we won´t relax.
We´ll still collect inheritance tax.

And what would tax reform mean to that median-income American family? Which states have the highest and lowest federal tax burdens? How long do you have to work this year just to pay your total tax bill (that is, when is Tax Freedom Day)?"
