White Mountains 2000: Frankenstein Cliff Trail

As usual, we ran into some wildlife - this time a pair of chipmunks. This one Chipmunk Looking For Food didn't really like the apricots we tossed, but still was willing to get close enough for this photo. You can even see its tiny hand...

Trail Through A Blowdown
Sue hikes down through the curved trees of an atypical blowdown on the trail.

After several hours of hiking we had a fine view back along the valley. The groove at the right side of the landscape is the valley of Arathusa Falls, (and the little white mark in it is the hundred plus foot waterfall) so you can see how far we had come.

We stopped at a ledge that overlooked the Frankenstein Cliff - at some times of the year a popular rock climbing destination, but closed at the time due to Peregrine Falcon nesting.

The last sight on the trip was the railroad bridge that leads to Crawford Notch. It was an amazing sight in the middle of the wild woods.
